You Break Through

First time there. No problems. Good people.

Overall, I had a good experience, and as someone completely new to this practice, I will say it was quite different from any dental cleaning I’ve had before. The word “experience” is quite accurate. There were several high-tech diagnostic tools, camera imaging, a CBCT scan, and a saliva test, and the initial diagnostic process took about an hour before the cleaning even began. As a new patient, I think this is their standard protocol, but it was quite a protocol! They then recommend a cleaning based on the results of that evaluation. In my case, they recommended a “stepped-up” gingivitis cleaning that involved several additional treatments. My main concern is that, without some prior knowledge or preparation, it can be difficult to make a truly informed decision about all of those options in the moment. Most of what was recommended seemed reasonable and clinically appropriate to me. The exception I questioned afterward was the laser bacterial-decontamination treatment. After looking into the research at home, the evidence for the added benefit of this treatment seems fairly limited, particularly for a case like mine, and it was also the most expensive additional treatment I paid for. If it continues to be recommended routinely at future visits, I would have more concerns about that aspect of the practice. That said, I felt well cared for, the final cost was reasonable with insurance, and I appreciate a practice that takes prevention seriously. A little more shared decision-making — particularly a clearer distinction between necessary treatment and optional adjunctive treatments — would make the experience even better.

I love the atmosphere. They are very good at what they do.
